A Perfect Fit

The Legendary Bob and Carl have a new home . . . introducing, the Three Blind Mice Irish Pub, in downtown Mount Clemens, Michigan! Yes indeed; we were there on the first night that the doors “un-officially” opened for the TBMIP. It was a little over a month ago now, but that very first weekend, (Their “soft” opening), cemented us in the coveted Friday night entertainment spot at our new favorite place. Everyone who comes to listen agrees, “It’s just a perfect fit!” This is the venue that we were born to play. There aren’t enough good things to say about this pub: the food, the atmosphere and the electricity can be felt, each and every night. Knowing that the best, and most interesting blend of music can be heard on a nightly basis only sweetens the deal when you are wondering where to spend your evening in Macomb County. Its the type of place that you feel at home the very first time that you walk through the door. The rich woodwork, brick, glass and tasteful accents speak to your soul like no other place before. Seemingly transported from Ireland to Mount Clemens, there can be little doubt the three men who’s vision can now be seen materialized at Market and Gratiot, in “The Clem”, had it right, all along. Bob and Carl now entertain every Friday night, beginning at 7:00 PM downstairs. While upstairs, promises an never ending array of the best entertainment the metro Detroit area can provide. Every customer that we have asked beamed about the food, when prompted. Maybe, some night, it will even slow down enough for us to give it a try. Now if you are thirsty . . . . Oh my! Are you in for a treat. “Pick your poison!” it has been said. So, if you have to go; make it right here. With hundreds of selections at arms’ length, served by the best wait-staff in the business; you can understand why even after such a short time being open, the Three Blind Mice Irish Pub is drawing rave reviews from everyone. So, Friday night, I hope that we can count on seeing you. Spend an evening of good food, great drinks and mediocre entertainment, with the Lengendary Bob and Carl at the TBMIP!

The Holiday Extravaganza Is Almost Here

Of all the events we play throughout the year, nothing quite compares to excitement that we share during this one, special week in December.

It’s finally upon us; our favorite time of the entire year: time for the Bob and Carl Holiday Extravaganza, 2013.

Playing music for people is both gratifying, and a real honor. Carl and I have been blessed to be able to share our unique talents for so many years now at so many shows throughout Michigan. That being said, nothing compares to the holiday shows that are right around the corner for us.

Carl and I will be playing for school children, parents, teachers and administrators in several school districts in the next couple of weeks. We will be sharing our incredible holiday show with so many special childen of all ages. Watching the magic of this season unfold right in from of our eyes is something that is truly impossible to express.

From now until the new year, we will share the joy of the season with song. Something that we never take for granted. For bringing the magic of the holiday season to life, is greatest feeling that we can ever experience.

The Amazing Cockroaches’ Swan Song

Entertainment czars are all a-twitter with the news that one of LA’s hottest producers is rumored to be flying in to town to catch Bob and Carl at the new venue-of-choice in Michigan, The Three Blind Mice Irish Pub.

Legendary singer, producer and front man for the iconic 80′s super-group, The Cockroaches, reportedly will whisk into town to put his seal of approval on the new entertainment digs, just outside of Detroit. The word is, that Eric will be scouting an out-of-the way venue for the long rumored Brad Savage & The Incredible Cockroaches reunion that may or may not be in the works.

Mr. Swan, who’s feet never seem to grow anything green, has been jetting the four corners of the globe in search of the right place to crank up the amps once more. (possibly for a local charity). His sights, just may be set on the Three Blind Mice.

One thing we DO know for sure, is that whenever Eric Swan arrives, amazing things follow. So lock up your women; keep a microphone at the ready; a cool drink at arms length; and plenty of crime scene tape in stock.

The Three Blind Mice just might see the light!

Three Blind Mice Opens

Plans for one of downtown Mount Clemens’ most anticipated venues will come to fruition Friday, Nov. 8, when the new Three Blind Mice finally opens its doors.

Created by Brad Teagan — founder and co-owner of Bad Brad’s BBQ — with partners Tony Raymon and Jake Crowder, Three Blind Mice is the city’s first traditional Irish pub since Deacon Brodies closed more than a decade ago.

The team has worked for close to a year on renovating the 113-year-old building on Main Street at Market Street, which has housed One-O-One Saloon, Voodoo Lounge, Chrissy’s and others. They’ve created a cozy environment featuring lots of oak and brass along with quaint touches such as a strip of 2013 pennies embedded on the bar trim.

“We wanted to make a really warm, comfortable 5-star dive bar with an Irish theme,” Teagan said. “We want you to be able to come in here no matter if you’re wearing a suit and tie or jeans and a T-shirt, and sit down to have a Scotch and some food. I think we’ve accomplished that.”

Three Blind Mice got its name from a whimsical story developed by Teagan’s crew about three mice who fell asleep in a barrel at an Irish whiskey factory and ended up getting shipped all the way to Mount Clemens. On the trek, the mice consumed so much whiskey, they went blind. The entire tale is spelled out on the back of the menu.

The menu also boasts a number of “fun facts” about the tavern, another interesting ingredient, as are the sandblasted Three Blind Mice logo on the interior door, and the distressed-wood bar counter, made of wood taken from burned-out houses in Detroit.

There are hanging cathedral lamps acquired from a New Haven church, two barn doors covering a closet and a number of bourbon barrels that form a backdrop for the stage in front of exposed brick walls.

“We wanted to have a story behind everything in here,” Teagan said. “Just about every time you come in here, you’ll find something to talk about in terms of the history of the building and the history of this region, and other fun stuff.”

For spirits, Three Blind Mice has more than 140 whiskeys, bourbons and Scotches, along with 250 beer selections in bottles and cans and 20 drafts. The beer selection includes “at least 100 craft and a bunch of Michigan-made” beers such as Dragonmead and Kuhnhenn, Teagan said.

The owners tapped Danielle Roberts as general manager and hired Zachary Stotz as executive chef. Stotz, a Mount Clemens resident, previously was employed at the former Atlas Global Bistro in Detroit.

Stotz developed a simple menu of traditional Irish dishes such as shepherd’s pie, corned beef and cabbage, bangers and mash and fish and chips plus a variety of burgers, salads, small plates, and soups.

Some items stand out — such as whiskey/apricot and Korean BBQ dips for the Amish wings, an over-easy burger topped with a fried egg and spicy mayo, and a one-of-a-kind Spamwich with deep-fried Spam, hash browns and scrambled eggs served on toasted ciabatta bread.

They plan to develop a rooftop garden next year to supply some of the restaurant’s veggies.

“I’m a big fan of global food — I’m not even Irish,” Stotz said. “But I think we’ve developed a very good menu.”

They’ll also have special Sunday brunches 11 a.m.-3 p.m. with bottomless bloody Marys and mimosas.

There will be live entertainment from an acoustic guitar player, often performing Irish tunes, seven nights a week on the first level. The second floor, boasting tall windows with a nice view of the city, will feature bands and DJs Thursday through Saturday. There’s even a plan to eventually assemble a live karaoke band for the upstairs as well.

Three Blind Mice is at 101 Main St., Mount Clemens. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Sunday. For more information, call 586-961-6371 or visit threeblindmiceirishpub.com

Live In The D

At 10:00 on St. Paddy’s day, Carl and I entered the WDIV Channel 4 studios in Detroit, Michigan to be featured on their Live In The D telecast with Karen Drew and Guy Gordon. This was one of the most enjoyable experiences that we have shared in our long careers; and not because of where we were, or what we were doing; but because of the kindness and energy of the entire cast and crew of the show. When I say that Guy and Karen could not have been nicer to us, that is without any exaggeration at all. Not only them, but the entire crew welcomed us and made us feel like valuable contributors on the broadcast. We can’t say that it was easy; I suppose that LIVE television never has been, but it WAS exhilarating! Carl wore an ear-piece so that the producer could give him momentary cues as to what they wanted and when. We never knew if the short musical “bumper” they needed would have vocals or be only instrumental. That fact, and the length of the show content, kept us on our toes throughout the entire sixty minutes. When we finished, and the last Irish sing-a-long was wrapped; we received high praise from the everyone on the show. They seemed to all be very appreciative of the job we did; as we were of them. Many thanks to Karen, Guy, Jay, Randy, Kevin and Laurie. We can’t say enough good things about working with Channel 4. We hope that we get another opportunity to work with them down the road . . .

Enjoy this panorama of the WDIV Live In The D set.
