Up On The Roof

Like the legendary Drifters’ song, on Saturday August 23, 2014 we we literally, Up On The Roof. Carl and I had the great fortune of being hired to play the second annual local pig roast for Special Olympics.  The house was beautiful, outside of Mt. Clemens Michigan, situated  on the banks of the Clinton River, with all the amenities anyone could ask for. However, they did throw one “curve-ball” our way when we asked them where we were supposed to set up and play for the evening . . . “On the roof.” was the reply from our wonderful hosts.  And, the only way to get our gear up there, was a small spiral staircase . . . Although we were taken aback at first; they produced a crew of “roadies”, and as soon as you could begin humming the “load out” from Jackson Browne, we were all set up and ready to make come magic As we mentioned, our hosts were friendly and more than accommodating.  The house was amazingly in tune to anything you could dream of to make your party a success, and the music was spot on. After a dizzying set of encores, it was time to pack up; and head down the spiral staircase.  (in the dark).  Good times.  Its fun being rock stars!   IMG_4513IMG_4512IMG_4516IMG_4517IMG_4522IMG_4525IMG_4535IMG_4536IMG_4537IMG_4538IMG_4540IMG_4542IMG_4543IMG_4544IMG_4545IMG_4546IMG_4547IMG_4548IMG_4549IMG_4555IMG_4559IMG_4560IMG_4562IMG_4565IMG_4570IMG_4572IMG_4575IMG_4577IMG_4578IMG_4579

So Many Choices

On a summer’s night in August, there are so many choices; and this particular weekend was a perfect example.  There was the Woodward Dream Cruise, the “Cheeseburger-In-Paradise” weekend in Caseville, and the Armada Fair, just to name a few.  Now, throw in big Tiger and Lions games on the television, and it gives folks even more reason to not go out on the town.  So when people with so many other choices make a point to share their weekend with us at the Three Blind Mice in Mount Clemens; it means even more.

Such was the case on Friday night, when the Mice was rockin’ upstairs, downstairs and all around the patio.  There were birthday parties, gatherings and graduation attendees, all sharing a drink, a laugh and a song.

We hold summer in Michigan in high esteem, and for good reason.  This last brutal winter illustrated once again just how precious those warm, wonderful days can be; and we don’t want to waste even one of them.

With the weather a little cool, we decided to play inside under the shadow of the big barrels.  That being said; playing inside offers us a more intimate experience.  A better chance for us to interact with the customers, as we play their favorites through the evening.

Upstairs, the tradition of fine musicians and bands continued with a visit to the big stage by a group called PUNCH,  who blasted out their version of many well-crafted favorites.

By night’s end, there were calls for encores, which sent everyone home with smiles on their faces.  Summer night in Michigan are precious; and so are memories that will last forever.

Full Mouse House

T’was a Friday on the patio, and all through the house; everyone was stirring, it was a full mouse.

Great night on Friday. Upstairs, downstairs inside and out; revelers were laughing, drinking and singing along to all kinds of music and merriment. While Carl and I entertained outside, the upstairs stage turned into a PLanet Of Fun. This talented group of musicians have been entertaining locally for a long time, and always playing to full houses wherever they plug in.

We would also like to give a shout out to Beau, the birthday boy who brought his entire posse out to the patio for a great time that many won’t soon forget.

Something From Nothing

So it was the fourth of July, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, anywhere at the Mouse . . .

After having a tremendous crowd at Great Oaks this afternoon, we were not quiet ready for what we saw when we arrived at the Three Blind Mice Irish Pub int he evening . . .

. . . nothing.

Well, to be honest, we understood it to be slow, but not THIS slow.  There was no one outside on the patio.  The upstairs was closed; and the inside bar had one table there.

It was going to be a long night, we believed.  This will be a true test of our entertainment skills.  And, entertain we did . . .  We turned one table into a 3/4 full pub by midnight.  And, in the process met another enter cast of new friends.

Sometimes, we feel like people are there to just be at a bar, but on a night like this, we feel that they came for the bar, but stayed for the music.

Great Oaks, Great Day

The weather was picture perfect for a fourth to never forget.  Ah, to be a kid at Great Oaks Country Club on the 4th of July would be something that you would never forget.  The water, the food the music . . .

We certainly didn’t take things for granted, and we have played here for twenty years!

Nothing can beat a setting like this, as we set up pool-side and spend the first part of the day playing to all of the members.  Everything we plays seems to resonate today; hitting all the high notes in people’s memories.  Country, folk, pop and classic rock fill the air, as party goers groove to a summer setting, ripe with family fun.

This is one gig that we never have taken for granted.  Perfect setting, great staff and families that we have practically grown up with over the years.

We will be back on Labor day, and for now at least; it seems far off.  Although, I know that it will be here before we know it.

A Total Blast

A rare night away from the Mice was spent at Total Sports this Saturday night.  They were doing a customer appreciation weekend, and rolled out the free food, entertainment and drink specials .   After a slow start, the evening picked up and allowed all on hand to enjoy a sweet time of relaxation and sports.

The Tigers won, the music created smiles, and the drinks topped off a great time that was had by everyone attending.

Many thanks to Bobby and Eddy for putting together another great event!IMG_2974 IMG_2980 IMG_2982

Friends

Sometimes, nothing pulls you through like having good friends show up.  Un-expected, unlooked for.  Un-announced.

An evening like that can make everything magical.  And, so it was this Friday night at the Three Blind Mice Irish Pub.  Good friends showed up, and made the night extra special.

There was even a surprise birthday party, of what would become new friends for us on this amazing night.

The band upstairs was un-expected as well, as I found out that the lead singer was an old friend from the YMCA in years past.  All grown up and powerful, with a voice to keep the crowd on their feet all night long.

Always a good time; always entertaining.  The Mice never disappoints!

Still Good Music

So, one of the great perks of being at a club that is known for music, is . . . the music!  This Friday night we were lucky enough to get to listen to one of the premier dance bands in the state.  Still Rain was in the house; and shaken’ it down good!

Friday’s Friends

IMG_2062 IMG_2061 IMG_2056 IMG_2055 IMG_2053 IMG_2051 IMG_2046 IMG_2045 IMG_2044         Every Friday night at the Three Blind Mice, the door open up, and we have the opportunity to meet and share an evening with new friends. Upstairs, FORMULA entertained to a full house, while downstairs, the vibe was completely different.  Carl was weaving his tapestry of tasty folkie favorites.  If you didn’t hear yours, it only means that you didn’t listen long enough. Stop by next time, and we’ll show you what we mean . . . Rb. . .

Cusp O’ Summer

Friday at the Mice, began which a whisper; and ended with a roar, as our night took a roller-coaster ride through every different type of music one could imagine. Irish, country, folk, rock and pop were heard as patrons got their fill of each and every genre.

Its a tribute to our craft, when we are able to meet people ready to leave as we begin playing at eight; but end up staying until midnight, because they are having such an amazing night. Nothing is more rewarding, than when we can make music come alive again to entertain new fans. We are glad they came. We are glad they stayed, and even more happy to see them return; smiling as they renew old aquaintences.

This Friday night upstairs was The Brad Company Band. We try and stop up to listen every night we play, and it is always a pleasure to hear talented musicians, interpreting a musical classic in their own way.
